Education
One of MONSU Caulfield's most important areas of endeavour relates to Education, where your student representative team have been listening, working and delivering for all Caulfield students. We take a very firm view that MONSU Caulfield, by working co-operatively with Monash University, can deliver a better outcome for all stakeholders.
Some of our key achievements to date have been:
Lobbying the Federal Government on Higher Education Reform
Many students have been concerned about the possible changes to the HECS system. That's why MONSU Caulfield took an active role in various national inquiries and consultative processes on behalf of students. That's why MONSU Caulfield remains one of the leading student organisations committed to representing mainstream students and presenting a rational viewpoint.
Working With Monash University on English Standards for Staff
After months of hard work and representations on behalf of Caulfield students by MONSU Caulfield, the University decided in late-2004 to make much-needed improvements to their processes and training for University staff from Non-English Speaking Backgrounds. This is a great step forward, and will lead to significant benefits for students, and improved support for staff in need of assistance.
Then Deputy Vice-Chancellor Stephen Parker wrote an email to then MONSU President Michael Josem regarding this issue:
"This is just to let you know that we have decided to undertake a project within University Academic Projects and Services on possible changes to our selection and performance management procedures relating to these issues...I have asked that you be invited to participate in the process...We do see it as an important initiative."
This is a clear vindication of MONSU Caulfield's efforts to listen, work, and now deliver for students on this important area.
