FAQs
The following are examples of recently asked questions from students.
What if I have failed a subject?
First make sure you have failed your subject by asking the subject leader/coordinator for the breakdown of your marks such as each assignment and other class marks. If you want to go further ask to view your exam paper and add the marks up. Remember most exams that have failed have been remarked.
I have passed my subject but I think I did better
If you have passed but think you should have a better result, your paper may not have been remarked, so you may ask for it to be reassessed. Again ask to sight your paper and ask your lecturer to give reasons for your result.
I failed the exam but I know I should have passed (48% or 44%)
Some subjects require students to pass "hurdles" to pass the subject. This means passing a particular assessment piece, to pass the unit. You mark could have been changed if you failed the hurdle requirment but your results added up to over 50%. The university does not give grades of " 52% - N " so your result will be lowered. It could be just the examination result or in some faculties a 44% or 48% is given.
I wont be able to attend my Supplementary/Deferred examination
It is your responsibilty to make sure you are available to sit your deferred & supplementary exam, however
exams are not always available to sit when you need them. Most deferred and supplementary exams are held in early January. If you are overseas you may be able to arrange another time with your subject leader/co-ordinator, such as semester 2 examinations, but this isn't a usual practice.
I've failed my final subject
In some Faculties if you fail your last subject you may be able to sit a supplementary examination as a chance to be able to graduate with your class. Ask at the Department or Faculty office.
I need to extend my stay in Australia to finish my course
If you are an international student and your visa will expire before you complete your subjects, please ask Health, Wellbeing and Development student advisor for advice on what you should do. Don't leave it until it's too late.
